So what is a student of the Class of 2017 to do? The Independent Educational Consulting Association blog recommends students who want to begin early test preparation to focus their energies on the ACT. There will be no great shake ups with the ACT, and it is widely accepted. In fact, 2012 marked the first year when more high school students sat for the ACT instead of the SAT, and I believe this upward trend will continue. Official released ACT tests are widely available, and there are extensive scoring, scaling, and percentile data available to colleges, counselors, and parents.
Unless your student has an aversion to the ACT science section, begin early prep for the ACT. It is a safe bet.
